Hi everyone,

After many months of waiting! Today Sunday, May 8th 2016 was the day tons of aviation geeks and heavy metal fans flocked to the outskirts on Operations Rd and the T4 Carpark to witness British band Iron Maiden arrive in their Boeing 747-428 named “Ed Force One” arrive on RWY 34 at Melbourne Airport.

For today’s special arrival I ventured up to the Terminal 4 Carpark, opening back in 2015 this new spotting location has become a hit with many spotters from the community. The view from the carpark is astonishing and gives you uninterrupted views of RWY’s 34 and 16. Today’s conditions certainly weren’t spectacular but honestly it was. The downpour that struck Melbourne the night before really drenched the runway meaning we could expect some epic engine spray and it delivered.

A Fun fact, The pilot for today’s flight was none other than the lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson. Bruce has a certified pilot’s license. Ed Force One still has to tour Adelaide and Perth before heading off to Cape Town and Johannesburg. Their final destination is Gothenburg in Sweden. This is where they will conclude their “Book of Souls World Tour,” and get a well deserved rest. The same can’t be said for “Ed Force One" which will be repainted at the tour’s conclusion.
