WIND SHEAR & CROSSWINDS Cause Multiple GO AROUNDS at Manchester Airport

For the second Sunday in a row strong winds at Manchester Airport meant for a day of wobbly and unstable landings. With most of the North of England subject to strong winds, winds at Manchester were gusting up to 40mph, in a direction directly crosswind to the runway.

The morning started with runway 05L being in operation. We arrived at the airport just in time to film a Ryanair 737 going around, which had been caused by wind-shear. An hour so later, a slight change in the wind direction meant that operations switched to 23's with runway 23R in operation. We stayed to film more approaches, the most notable being the Titan 757 which suffered windshear on short final, causing the pilots to carry out a missed approach.
