Well today marks another sad day in the industry as we see the final Virgin Atlantic B747 landing at Manchester, bringing an end to the 747’s years of flying for Virgin. The devastating impacts of COVID-19 have forced my aircraft into early retirement and the Virgin B747’s have been some of many aircraft to have this fate suddenly brought upon them.

The 747 has been operating for Virgin Atlantic since 1982 and has been an integral part of their history, with the 747 mostly responsible for Virgin Atlantic early success and growth. Now in May 2020 all 7 remaining 747’s in their fleet are now parked at Manchester Airport after the arrival of G-VROY yesterday and G-VXLG this evening, both arriving from Glasgow. These 747’s will no remain at Manchester until they depart either for scrap or for whatever their future holds.

I think its easy to say that many people have fond memories and experiences of the Virgin 747 and this aircraft has been a key player In Virgin’s operations here at our home airport of Manchester. Last summer with up to 4 747 flights a day, this aircraft was a regular sight at the airport, and it truly will be missed by many. _____________________________________________________________
